Comedian Boris Arkadiev has it all: he has a happy family, he is loved by millions, fans queue for his autographs and authorities are benevolent. But he is tormented by lack of freedom - internal and external; as his fame grows, so does his brewing protest. And soon enough the funny man will become too dangerous.

Michael Idov wrote scripts for Soulless 2 and Leto (in collaboration with his wife Lily Idov), co-wrote the stage play Rebels (produced by the Moscow Art Theater), and was the showrunner of The Optimists and Londongrad. Idov also won the Russian National Music Award for The Optimists' score. He has published several books, including the best-selling novel Ground Up and recent memoir Dressed Up for a Riot. The Humorist is his directorial feature debut.
